Session Description: NFPA 1221 boldly proclaims: "call and dispatch performance statistics shall be compiled and maintained". What is the impact of that statement for the manager of a dispatch center? This presentation will review the relevant section of the NFPA 1221 Standard, focusing on how a performance measurement system was introduced into a medium sized fire department dispatch centre. Performance measurement is more than just the numbers however, and this presentation will also explore the other factors that make up a highly performing individual/team and how they can be measured and reported on.

Speaker Bio: Jason Brolund has been involved in emergency services for the past 15 years as a firefighter, paramedic, dispatcher, fire inspector and most recently as Assistant Chief in the Kelowna Fire Department. IN his current position he manages the Regional Fire Dispatch Centre that handles 19,000 calls per year. Jason also manages the Regional Emergency Program for the Central Okanagan and was directly involved in the emergency management component of the 2009 Wildfires in British Columbia and as a Venue Fire Commander during the 2010 Winter Games. Jason't strong technical background combined with his passion for the fire service are a unique combination and give him a strong perspective on the future direction of emergency services technology and leadership.
