Concurrent Session I: T'n T (Train in Ten) Dynamite Communications Training in Ten Minutes
Tuesday, November 16: 13:00 - 14:00
Speaker: Kirsten Vincent, Coaching Coordinator & Staff Development Trainer, Winnipeg Police Service
Session Description: Ten minute daily training exercises, called T'nT's (Train in Ten) provide an up to date, timely review of Service procedures on High Risk/Low Frequency events. Participants are provided with objectives, the relevant policy or procedure, an analysis and a multiple-choice question related to the scenario in order to test the member's understanding of the topic.
Topics are created by a select group of trained dispatchers and 911 operators who contribute to their team's learning. Supervisors also submit suggestions for topics as they see the need for procedure review first hand. T'n'T's are used to review existing procedure and to practice new procedure as it is introduced.
Learning Objectives:
- Provide participants with ongoing, small amounts of training material related to practical work examples, rather than a large amount of lecture material at one time. This increases retention of the training content.
- To provide a cost effective training method that does not require scheduling staff on their days off or on overtime.
- Ensures training is delivered, reviewed and tested in a timely fashion for mandatory training requirements particularly for topics of high risk/low frequency.
